Siberian
irises are outstanding perennial landscape plants. They are among the hardiest and
easiest to grow of all perennials. Most bloom around the same time as peonies
and many bloom in wonderful rich shades of blue and violet adding another color
dimension to the peony plantings. Their broad sturdy grass like foliage adds a
strong vertical element that remains attractive throughout the growing season.
Siberians
are well adapted to a wide range of growing conditions in Zone 3-9, but like
peonies, they need a cold dormant period to perform well. They grow and bloom well
when planted in full sun. However, they will tolerate shade for less than half
a day. Bloom will be directly proportional to the amount of sun received.
